Objectives of our program
We believe play is the most significant way for children to learn, with emphasis on promoting independence, communication and developing confidence and self-esteem. The program aim is to prepare children in all areas of development.
Our program is formed around the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development framework and the development capabilities of three- to four-year-olds. Specifically our program supports:
-
Social development: Forming new relationships with both adults and other children, learning to respect the rights of others, sharing ideas and toys, and understand limits to make working in a group more effective.
-
Physical development: Through materials and equipment specifically designed to meet the needs of kindergarten children.
-
Cognitive development: Extending and developing language, increasing concentration, expanding children's awareness of the world around them, and developing creative skills through experimentation.
-
Emotional development: By ensuing the children feel safe and that they know they are important. Assisting children to gain confidence and self esteem through positive reinforcement and encouraging children to express their feelings.
We follow a set of consistent routines which allow the children to feel a sense of familiarity, security and safety. A typical three-year-old session would involve:
-
outdoor and indoor play
-
large group times together
-
singing, dancing, role play and movement experiences
-
painting, drawing, play-dough and craft activities
-
reading, puzzles and games
-
group snack time.
The development of your three-year-old child
Your three-year-old child enjoys being with other children, and even though they may play on their own a lot, they will begin to play together with others more.
Your child is beginning to learn how to socialise and interact with others, and they are beginning to control their own emotions better (tantrums can still occur).
Your child will begin to develop a sense of humour, and may like to laugh at and repeat silly words and situations.
Your child will gradually begin to extend their independence and self-help skills by toileting on their own; assuming responsibility for their personal belongings e.g. hats, coats, lunch box; wash their own hands; and ask for help if needed.
